We all have to make decisions every day. Some choices we are faced with are easy, while some are much more difficult. God always wants us to make good decisions, but the truth of the matter is that we do not always understand what a good decision is.
Whether big or small, every decision needs to start with coming before God, and seeking His direction. Regardless of what you think you are or are not capable of, it is always wiser to seek God's approval first. Look at the many battles that Israel fought in throughout the Old Testament. Consider David and Goliath (1Sam. 17:45-50), or the judge Gideon going against the massive Midianite army with only 300 men (Judg. 7). In these instances, God triumphed in circumstances man could not.
However, there are instances when we think we can triumph, and we come to the Lord improperly. The first two sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, were killed almost as soon as they became priest, because they came before Good inappropriately (Lev. 10:1-2)/ During the times of Jeremiah, there was false prophet named Hannaniah who preached good things concerning Israel's future, but was killed because he was speaking from himself rather than from God (Jer. 28:15-17).
Seeking God has consequences, and not seeking God has consequences. Jamie Munson writes, "For starters, we must rely heavily on the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit and possess a clear understanding of our God-given mission." In all instances, we need to make sure that we are being led by the Holy Spirit. The first step is prayer. If we will be faithful in that, we can trust that God will be faithful in leading us where we need to be.
