When we have a passion for something, we do what we can to pursue it. For example, maybe you have a passion for professional basketball. More than likely, you do not have the skills to actually play competitive professional basketball. While you won't be playing on any team, you will track your favorite team's status; you will stay up-to-date on the latest player news and stats.
To be passionate about something means that we pursue it to the best of our ability.
It should come as no surprise, but Christ desires that we pursue Him harder than anything else. John Piper gives four reasons for why we should pursue Christ. He suggests we should pursue hard after Christ because 1)we want to know Him, 2)we want to be justified by Him, 3) we are imperfect, and 4) we are His. Piper also gives three examples of how we might pursue God. We can pursue God harder by 1) realizing we have a long way to go on our spiritual journey, 2) forgetting what lies in the past, and 3)straining for what is to come in the future.
God calls us to pursue God hard. He desires a deep, deep intimate relationship with us. We can choose to ignore that, and stay stagnant where we are, or we can do what we can to pursue that. We need to find ourselves dissatisfied with where we are in Christ, in order that we might pursue the God of creation more vigorously.
What are you doing to pursue God harder today, than you did yesterday? Even spending one extra minute in prayer today will have an eternal impact.
