When reminiscing upon the way God has spoken to you this past year, what are the convictions that you most remember? Did you follow through in obeying them? There are many times we feel as though God is prompting us to do something, and it usually tests our faith, character and integrity. In those times, it is important that we understand what these convictions are and how we are to respond to them. David Gibbs talks about convictions and how they are different to what we perceive as preferencces. "A preference is a strong belief, but a belift that you will change under the right circumstances. Circumstances such as 1) peer pressure; if your beliefs are such that other people stand with you before you will stand, your beliefs are preferneces, not convictions, 2)family pressure, 3)lawsuits, 4)jail, 5)threat of death; would you die for your beliefs? A conviction is a belift that you will not change. Why? A man believes that his God requires it of him. Preference aren't protected by the constitution. Convictions are. A conviction is not something that you discover, it is something that you purpose in your heart (Daniel 1: 2-3). Convictions on the inside will always show up on the outside, in a person's lifestyle. To violate a convction would be a sin." This definition is one gien by the Supreme Court, but seems to be a very accurate one even in terms of our Christian belief. If the world can even acknowledge convictions as something that is of God and can stand in court, how much more will resolving to obey these convctions stand in the throne room of God?
