True Worship contains the heart of thanksgiving. Throughout Psalms, David emphasized the importance of coming before God with thanksgiving. If prayer is also considered to be worship to God, we are also told that when we give our requests to God that we are to do it with thankgiving. Along with this desire to express our gratefulness to God, we cannot deny that there is an intermingling expression of joy in our worship. Psalm 32:11 tells us to "be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, and shout for joy." Likewise, John Piper shares that he see true worship as "not just ascribing authority and dignity to Christ [but] doing this joyfully. It is doing it because you have come to see something about Christ that is so desirable that being near him to ascribe authority and dignity to him personally is overwhelmingly compelling." May you desire to give God this type of worship today as you meditate upon your devotions. "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name" (Psalm 100:4)
