Growing up, all of us in one way or another have been disciplined by authority, whether that figure is a mother, father or teacher, and almost in unison, we can agree that we did not enjoy it. We still probably do not enjoy being corrected or getting in trouble, but what we have to remember is not to bring the attitude of despising the discipline into our relationship with God, for He disciplines only those He loves.
"My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights" (Proverbs 3:11-12). Frequently when wwe fail to remember the commands God has laid upon us - He seeks to bring us back t oa life of trustful obedience by the cahstening of sorrow or privation. We rebel, but the wise man pleads with us as sons of God, not to despise the chastening of the Lord. The Bible always talks to us as children. It comes with a father's authority, and also with a father's lovingness and gentleness.
We are never told to enjoy the discipling we receive, not even necessarily from God. For even the bible says that "no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful" (Hebrews 12:11); however, it is the second part of this verse in Hebrews that we must focus on, "Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those have been trained by it." Accept the discipline of the Lord as His love for you and endure the training for it will result in the crown of life that He has prepared for you.
